The issue is Johnson rebranded what was left of the Petty name. The King has been an ambassador owner for last ten years or so, wth his name always on the door. But Johnson and his marketing team thought it was a good idea to rebrand to some new age car club garbage. Punk move

It isn't a punk move at all.

What has Petty Enterprises been doing the last 20 years in NASCAR? They’ve won a total of 3 cup wins since Richard got out of the car nearly 3 decades ago. Last win was 1999. Many would say a rebrand was long overdue.

Seems like a miscommunication between JJ and The King in what was expected of both. Also, JJ reached his expiration date in IndyCar career based on performance, perhaps the same could be said of RP and the day to day operations of RPM given the same metrics.

Yes Kenny, I know you're right. But, it's hard to turn loose of what you grew up with and idolized. You hung on to every word these men said and figured they had the wisdom to back it up.

Richard petty is the Michael Jordan of owning a team. When he played/ raced he was legendary. When he focused on being a owner the team was pitiful. Richard should be mad that he stayed in a sport 40 years and never won a title as a owner with a other driver

Once again, words of wisdom from you! There will only ever be one KING in NASCAR. We all have an expiration date. He's had a forever-lasting impact on the sport we love. Still involved, but passing on a legacy to another one of the greats in NASCAR♥️

He’s had 20 plus years to keep “his”
team up with thr rest. However, just like Jack R. they just stayed with the old ways and had no sort of strategic planning to progress. It’s a business and dead weight is an expense. Don’t whoa is me, it’s his own fault.

You are absolutely right. Everybody & everything they do has an expiration date. It may come sooner than we like. I had a great job that I enjoyed every day, slowly but surely though arthritis took it away.
Not relative to whatever is on The King’s mind, just an example.

Very thoughtful response Kenny!!! We’ll never know how much The King called the shots but Maury Gallagher felt it necessary to bring JJ into the fold to help lead the organization. The King is special and will always be but it was time.

Yes. Petty Enterprises and Richard Petty Motorsports are no more. But Legacy Motor Club will always be traced back to that legacy! This was a move that was going to happen eventually. I feel it's best that it happened while Richard is still a part of it! Thank you Richard Petty!

I think it's hard for him just to realize how old he really is and his position I think we would all feel the same way it seems Nascar has passed Richard by in some regards and that's not necessarily a good thing either

For the first time in NASCAR history there is no team with the name "Petty" in its name and I think it just hit him. To me, it almost feels like he's losing the other love in his life after Miss Lynda.
