most attempts to modernize tailoring have only made it worse: the slim, short jackets, tight pants that cling to the back of your legs, dress sneakers, reliance on walnut-colored shoes, etc. ppl are afraid of leaning into a classic look, but classic can be good!

I think shoes are the easiest way to identify a basic bitch: OC, all birds, tan leather sneaker/dress shoes

Those horrendous sneaker/dress shoe hybrids need to die. I saw McCarthy on MTP this morning wearing the ugliest fucking shoes, man.

How did ignorant grifters become the default in today's Republican Party, and how can we make shoes the problem?

Also, I don't love dress sneakers, but they're clutch when I have a lot of miles to walk and sneakers aren't appropriate

Tan shoes communicate a more casual look; style has become more casual. I have tan oxfords that work well with gray and navy chinos for my slightly business casual office

Classic looks are great, but can come off a bit showy when you're trying to just blend in at the office. Of course, the photo you picked is poor execution - it's so bad that he stands out at the office

Derek, for men, what is the best shoe to wear to a 3-4 day business conference at a resort that involve meetings, golf, pool, and plenty of walking?

black became associated with very formal.
business dress should be a notch down from that, making a wider selection of colors acceptable.

I can’t understand this either. Tan shoes and belt with navy or grey does not match. Black shoes please. Tan is fine with khaki, which is a color not a type of pants. Yes, I am a curmudgeon

On the other hand, the guy in the picture has nothing to do with business, either.

@dieworkwear are there any circumstances you would justify wearing these tan shoes in the workplace (coming from someone who has a personal vendetta against them bc modernity over degradation imo)

the scourge of hybrid dress shoes with sneaker soles needs to purged from this earth

I distinctly remember reading something in Esquire a long time ago (early/mid-00s?) that suggested a mid-brown shoe with a navy/gray suit as a stylish alternative to the standard business black shoe. Seems like the move toward tan could be an evolution of that shift?

I have black shoes, but I do prefer brown and burgundy to black shoes usually. Tan aren’t really my thing though.
