And now look at the monopolisation of Android in low-end and mid-end segments and iOS in the flagship segment.
Windows Phone was truly awesome. It was my dream operating system.

Too bad developers were treating Windows Phone like shit back then.
And the fact that Microsoft was babying Nokia like crazy also helped Android in gaining a much bigger worldwide market share to the point that it is already so big today.

Some books talk about why Microsoft let it die and didn’t give it that much support. Mainly to prevent monopoly practice lawsuits .

I got a Windows phone for my grandma back then as I knew that she would prefer having large tiles rather than tiny buttons like on Android or iPhone. She definitely appreciated a simple clear design!

Lets just say someone high up on windows was the same person on Nokia. Probably had a stake or something if that makes sense you know.

Still is. Also it had very polished desktop mode which did look like it was designed and not someone just try to make Android do what it was never designed to do

It surely was. The UI was specially great, unique and the os was great to run on low end hardware. Wish if it was still around. My friend had one from Nokia and it was great to use. Sadly lack of app and software support made the os disappear.

Actually it came late for what it was trying to achieve. Microsoft delayed it so much that by the time it came, no one wanted to make apps for it therefore no one wanted to use it.
It was a perfect system, lagless, ran on any hardware. Great cameras for the times.

In a alternate future, I might have gone windows phone, I prefer windows over Mac, mainly cause of the freedom and flexibility.

I loved mine, the interface always felt smooth and the camera was pretty alright for the time, just wish more developers had gotten on board so the app store could have had more options.

Windows phone was just too late. Before WP 8 Api capabilities were very limited. I would have loved if it succeded but MS also did not make it easy for devs to be succeaful with it

Indeed. Indeed it was.
IOS is the closest but nothing compared to WP's potential.

The smoothness of ui even on very low level hardware
The aesthetics of UI
Camera was amazing
Design was amazing
Only apps sucked on windows phone
Still have lumia 520 which works smooth even in 2022

Unfortunately there was little support for must-have apps. Had to put in extra effort for simple tasks on other platforms.
